OPTICA 2000 Seen at Optica By Steph De Long
Thanks to its new Spring scheduling, Optica 2000 was held April 28 to May 1 in Cologne, Germany. Some 300 exhibitors displayed their wares at what is that country's largest international optical forum. Attendees were treated to several new venues in the hall-including a new Outlook area which housed avant-garde frames companies along intimate, diagonal walkways. There were also several new areas set up for panel discussions and presentations, including the Marketing Forum and a "Better Vision in Sport" action section where attendees could actually test new sports eyewear products. In terms of frame styling, simple lines were marked by an increased focus on sidepiece designs. Sunglasses were large and wide, with many designers adding Rx capabilities to their collections. And, in the spectacle lens arena, all eyes were on a move toward individually processed progressive lenses. Here are just a few images of Optica 2000. EB
