Modern. American. Glamour.

jonathan Adler fell in love with the potter’s wheel at the age of 12 while playing with clay at summer camp. His passion stayed with him into adulthood—and he traded a career path in the entertainment industry to teach pottery classes in New York City in exchange for free studio space.
Barneys New York picked up his first collection, and he was off and running, throwing, glazing, and shipping every single piece himself for the first few years. Today, Adler—and his work, from furniture to fashion and an eyewear collection with REM Eyewear—is a global sensation.
On Eyewear:
My eyewear is an extension of everything I do, which is about modern American glamour. I want my stuff to be modern, in the sense meaning new and fresh. And American in the sense that I am American. And glamour, because to me, glamour is the most important thing. Eyewear should be memorable—and you need a little swagger.
On Specs Trends:
It’s more graphic—which I’m happy to see. Bolder, with some hidden surprises.
On Curtains:
There’s a cliché about eyes being the window to the soul, so then eyeglasses are the curtains—and curtains are very important.
On Inspiration:
I like to travel to places that are of a singular style. Capri is a place that I always go back to because it’s a singular destination that exudes jet-set glamour, crisp design, and optimism.
