Chris Fischer swims with sharks. The notably large kind.
He is the founder, chairman, and expedition leader of the first-of-its-kind, groundbreaking shark research organization OCEARCH, a group of explorers and scientists dedicated to generating previously unattainable data on the movement, biology, and health of sharks. To date, OCEARCH has conducted 28 expeditions around the globe, including tagging 40 great white sharks in South Africa in 2012.
Costa is a proud partner of OCEARCH, and Fischer looks at high-tech, quality sunwear as a tool of the trade. Here, he shares some specifics with EB.
OCEARCH’s mission?
Because sharks were so big…we lacked information on apex predators. They are the balance keepers, the lions of the ocean. We were in a unique position to make an impact and ensure future generations can enjoy an ocean full of life and a continued food supply.
Key visual needs?
Our Costas protect our eyes from the elements and the inherent dangers of our work. The fact that they are the finest product available to see in the water maximizes our efficiency.
Favorite Costas?
Corbina Ashwood Sunrise Silver Mirror prescription lens. Crystal-clear vision deep into the water, they never break, and they look cool.
Scariest close encounter?
No close calls with sharks—our scariest encounters on the water have come from dealing with weather. The ocean is all powerful; she tells you where and when you can work.
