SHAMIR
Driver Intelligence
Shamir has launched Driver Intelligence, a lens that employs artificial intelligence, eye tracking, and data to address the broad set of visual challenges drivers face such as sudden changes in road conditions and varying light intensity from the sun, street lamps, oncoming headlights, interior digital displays, and the eyes shifting from the car interior to the distant road.
According to the company, Driver Intelligence uses Shamir’s most advanced technologies to provide optimal vision under all driving conditions, sharp and clear vision with less glare in all lighting conditions, and wide visual fields for increased road awareness. In addition to insights from the company’s Alpine partner competitive drivers, the lens was developed based on extensive measurements of head movements and eye tracking, enabling the lens to predict driver visual behavior and adapt to the individual needs of the wearer, shares Shamir.
Shamir Driver Intelligence comes as a set of two pairs of glasses—one for daylight and one for nighttime driving. The daylight lenses simulate color contrast and are equipped with object-recognition enhancement effects used in Formula 1 racing helmet visors, shares Shamir, and the nighttime lens design reduces visual noise and eye fatigue to improve drivers’ reaction times.
FIRST FIT PLUS
First Fit Plus
First Fit Plus has launched a device designed to provide patients with “expertly fit” eyewear.
According to the company, eyecare professionals can use the fitting tool without having to view the patient’s pupil, because the patent-pending viewing slot is designed to eliminate parallax errors and pupil-height guesswork. Crafted from laser-cut aluminum with engraved markings and a coated finish, the handheld multitool also has a built-in flattop measuring gauge and temple adjustment grooves, designed to enable eyecare professionals to bend temples easily while taking pressure off their fingertips.
BAUSCH + LOMB
Biotrue Hydration Boost for Contacts
Bausch + Lomb has released Biotrue Hydration Boost for Contacts, preservative-free rehydrating drops designed to lubricate and rewet soft contact lenses.
Bausch + Lomb shares that the product contains a combination of naturally inspired ingredients informed by the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society’s DEWS II report, including hyaluronan (HA), a moisturizer found naturally in tears; electrolytes, a component of natural tears; and an antioxidant, which protects HA against free radicals. The drops include a surfactant to help prevent deposit buildup on lenses while matching the pH of healthy tears to avoid discomfort, according to the company.
