To celebrate our 40th year, Eyecare Business reached out to our board members and past #EBGameChangers for their thoughts on how eyewear and eye care have changed since our launch in 1986. Here are reflections from 2025 EB Game Changer Paul Holman, LDO, NCLEC, ABOC, FNAO, board president and Alaska PNWOA ambassador at the Opticians Association of Alaska:
“I've had the privilege to work in the eyecare industry since 2005 in the proud northern state of Alaska. Looking back, some of the changes I have seen are the ever-growing need for more and more eyecare professionals. Between the large population of Baby Boomers who are far into conditions such as presbyopia and the next generation who are faced with fatigue and strain from digital devise usage, as well as the onset of higher myopia and presbyopia earlier in life, there seems to be a need for the eyecare professional more than ever!
“We have also seen more of a trend for eyecare professionals to accept multiple ways to embrace technology, efficiency, and patient management to best meet those demands. The great outlook I see is that eye care is an ever-growing need, and we all have the potential to work to make positive changes in vision for people. There is so much work to do! I hope we can all embrace that need and continue to serve in the best way we know how—by making the optical difference in this world!”
