Dec. 23, 2021 — Mia Burton, an online retailing platform that specializes in designer eyewear, has secured 1.5 million euros in funding during 2021, which has been a year of growth for the Milan-based company. The second round of funding included a contribution from Azimut Direct, which describes itself as “the marketplace…in support of Italian SME’s”—that is, Italy-based small and medium enterprises.
With this infusion of capital during 2021, Mia Burton—which offers designer sunwear, eyewear, and accessories—looks to continue creating a new concept in multibrand online retail. As described by founders Gabriele and Alberto Lipari, “Our main goal is to create a valuable experience. Starting with the brands we carry, more than being resellers, we propose ourselves as partners, fostering dialogue and a synergistic collaboration. Co-designing a quality e-concession is key to scaling quickly and guaranteeing a high level of control, which is almost impossible with the traditional wholesale model. Our promise is based on reputation; this is also why big players like Kering Eyewear and influential brands like Gentle Monster have chosen to work with us.”
In all, product sold YOY has increased 195% in 2021, and turnover is up 210%. Sales come from 39 brands as well as some limited-edition exclusive collaborations, including one with Lesca, a French house recognized for its artisanal eyewear.
“Collaborations help us cultivate our relationships with brands,” says Daniela Vutera, Mia Burton’s executive creative director. “Working together on a project creates a direct bridge of communication. Even after our limited editions launch, we maintain a personal connection: this opens the way to a deeper creative exchange and allows us to easily share insights and new strategies.”
In addition to a new collaboration, the teams in both Milan and Palermo will continue to expand, with new hires already planned in both the commercial and China business development areas.
