Jan. 11, 2024 — Eschenbach Optik of America Inc. has sponsored two visually impaired students to attend the Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students (SCVIS). This is the second year in a row that the company has participated in this initiative, paying for both scholarship winners’ tuition in full.
Each winner completed their space mission successfully: Kelsey K. from Smithfield, UT, attended the Space Academy program, and Coy dale D. from Hope Hull, AL, attended the Advanced Space Academy program.
The four-day event took place at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL, where students learned about aerospace career opportunities, participated in astronaut training techniques from NASA’s program, experienced space flight simulations, conducted a spaceflight mission, and performed an underwater scuba build.
The educational adventure presented many opportunities for the students to work with those who shared similar visual challenges, allowing them to overcome those challenges together as a team.
“It was so much fun at Space Camp with all the things I got to try and do and all the crazy experiences I had,” says Kelsey K. “It was so exciting and challenging!”
