April 18, 2024 — VSP Vision has released its 2023 Impact Report to provide details regarding the company’s progress toward its corporate social responsibility commitments in three focus areas: accelerating health equity; empowering diversity, equity, and inclusion; and advancing sustainability.
Here are highlights from 2023 that VSP Vision shares in its second annual impact report:
- VSP invested nearly $13.5 million in direct and in-kind funding to increase equitable access to vision care, $775,000 in relief to those affected by disasters ($21 million to date), and $416,000 in scholarships and grants for the next generation of optometrists ($3.3 million to date).
- Through VSP Vision Eyes of Hope, 264,000 people received access to no-cost vision care, surpassing the milestone of 4 million people helped since the program’s inception.
- VSP’s supplier diversity program, which works to ensure diverse suppliers have equal access to doing business with VSP, exceeded its 5% goal and expanded by 18.9%.
- VSP established the Empowering Equity Scholarship to increase awareness about career opportunities for Black students.
- VSP increased the number of frames made from sustainable, recycled, and bio-based materials from 25% to 33% by introducing sustainable frame materials like Eastman’s Acetate Renew and Tenite Renew materials in addition to recycled steel. The company plans to produce 50% of its frames from sustainable materials by 2025.
- VSP shipped 184,000 of its e-commerce shipping boxes made from 100% recycled materials, saving the equivalent of 721 mature trees and resulting in removing 39 tons of carbon dioxide from the air.
- Through its employee giving and volunteering platform, VSP Hearts at Work, VSP employees supported more than 700 causes by logging 9,000 volunteer hours and raising $441,000. In one month alone, 114 employee volunteers logged more than 700 hours for VSP’s inaugural VSP Vision Volunteer Month launched in April 2023.
