VSP Vision and the American Academy of Optometry Foundation (AAOF) have awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to 52 fourth-year optometry students through the 2026 Practice Excellence Scholarship program. The program recognizes students from accredited optometry schools across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada who demonstrate academic achievement, excellence in clinical care, leadership, and a commitment to advancing the optometric profession.
Each recipient received a $4,000 scholarship, including a travel grant to attend Academy 2026, which was held September 30 through October 3 in Anaheim, California. The annual meeting brought together optometrists, researchers, educators, and students for educational programming and professional networking.
“The recipients of the 2026 Practice Excellence Scholarship exemplify the talent, leadership, and dedication that will define the future of optometry,” said Michelle Skinner, chief provider solutions officer at VSP Vision, in a press release. “A healthier, more sustainable profession is possible when we invest in the doctors who deliver the care. With programs like this, VSP continues to support the next generation of ODs and strengthen the future of eye care.”
The 52 scholarship recipients represent 26 optometry schools, including the Illinois College of Optometry, Indiana University School of Optometry, New England College of Optometry, Southern California College of Optometry, SUNY College of Optometry, and the University of Waterloo School of Optometry & Vision Science, among others.
According to VSP Vision, the company has provided more than $4.6 million in scholarships to nearly 1,400 optometry students to date. Learn more here.
