The heat has been beat and cool Fall is rolling in. While many are putting away their beach chairs and bikinis for the year, sunwear is something that stays within hands' reach. And why not? The UV impact from snow can be more intense then that from the summer sunshineaccording to the Vision Council of America, 85 percent of the sun's UV rays are reflected upward.
If that doesn't cause sunwear sellers to reflect on the year round potential of the sunwear market, consider these other sunwear highlights and keep your sun displays ready to go.
SPORTS: Health-conscious Americans are heading outdoors. From ski goggles to eight-base wrap polarized sunwear for fishing, this market of consumers is always on the go and ready to buy the equipment to help them perform.
SAFETY: People are living longer and increasingly concerned about looking younger and maintaining a high quality of life. By providing patients with sunwear year round your service is two-fold: The sunwear helps provide protection from macular degeneration and cataracts, and by lessening squinting, it cuts wrinkling too.
STYLE: While multiple pair sales of ophthalmic glasses may be tough, most consumers have at least three pairs of sunglasses. Why shouldn't they buy them from you?
Active Attraction
How big is the sports market? According to the Outdoor Recreation Participation Study by the Outdoor Industry FoundatIon, almost three-quarters of Americans age 16 and older, 161.6 million, participated in outdoor sports last year. The majority of Americans 16 and older, 62.6 percent, participated in between one and three outdoor activities in 2005. The top five outdoor activities by percent of Americans who participated in the activity at least once in the prior year: Bicycling 38.2 percent; fishing 34.5 percent; hiking 34.2 percent; camping 30.4 percent; trail running 18 percent.
