Carl Zeiss Meditec's Joseph Boorady, OD Davis Vision's Tom Davis Optical Association of America's Chris Allen Bright Display named Dianne Lax as its new director of business development. Lax will build new distribution channels, expand the team of sales representatives, and assist Bright Display in developing international markets. Briot USA has appointed Tom Pfleging as president and Wanda Crawford as vice president of finance. John Hemphill has been promoted to vice president of sales, and Andrew Bumerts has been named national sales trainer. Carl Zeiss Meditec announced the appointment of Joseph T. Boorady, OD, as director of clinical education. Boorady, who has nearly two decades of experience, will work to expand partnerships with optometry schools throughout the country and identify future product and service opportunities. Davis Vision, Inc., has named Tom Davis executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Davis will be responsible for all sales and marketing activities for Davis Vision, including new regional marketing strategies. The Opticians Association of America (OAA) recently hired Chris Allen as executive director. Allen has over 12 years of professional experience in public relations, fund-raising, government affairs, event management, executive leadership, and general business administration. Warren Meyer, a 36-year optical lab industry veteran, has joined VSP as vice president of laboratory operations. He will oversee operations of VSP's wholly owned optical labs and help to direct ophthalmic purchasing, quality assurance, and technology efforts across VSP's lab network. |

Recognized for its exceptional business practices and Coppertone Polarized Lens product, Vision-Ease Lens recently received two awards from National Vision, Inc.: The Best Business Management and Best New Product awards, given annually to suppliers of National Vision, the nation's fourth largest optical retailer.
Kenmark Group honored its top sales reps for outstanding performances in 2008. Awards went to Carla White, sales representative of the year; Pat Gantt, sales representative with the most sales volume; Steve Mount, consistent exceptional performance award; John Mancine, Kenmark's rising star; and Dave Janssen, rookie of the year.
Shamir recently announced the grand prize winner of its "Creation and Cruise Your Destination" promotion, Harold Lappin, MD, PA, of Hackettstown, N.J. The practice won four cruise tickets to one of these destinations: Hawaii, Alaska, the Bahamas, or the Panama Canal.
CORRECTION
In the February issue of Eyecare Business, in the article titled "Earth Friendly," the square footage of Advanced Eyecare's new two-story office space was incorrectly listed as 2,700 square feet (with a $500,000 project budget for construction and equipment). The correct square footage is 5,400 square feet (with the same $500,000 budget).
