Bausch & Lomb's board of directors has elected Susan A. Roberts (photos captioned top to bottom) as a corporate vice president. She is the company's chief compliance officer and heads the global pharmacovigilance and safety surveillance groups. Roberts joined Bausch & Lomb in 1995. Transitions Optical, Inc., has appointed Eric Zaretsky chief financial officer. Zaretsky will provide strategic leadership and direction related to finance and purchasing, and will become a member of the Transitions Optical Global Leadership Council. Michael T. Ruggeri was named business controller for the Optical and Specialty Materials segment, PPG Industries. Ruggeri will provide leadership to financial planning and strategic business initiatives focused on profitable growth across the Optical and Specialty Materials segment of PPG Industries, which owns Transitions in a joint venture with Essilor International. Viva International Group has appointed Don Fatula as corporate accounts manager for the U.S. Fatula will manage selected high-level corporate accounts and mid-tier chains, and will work with business development to customize programs and strengthen business relationships. |
BUSINESS UPDATES
Davis Vision, a Highmark company, celebrated the grand opening of its new state-of-the-art ophthalmic lab located in Newtown Square, Pa. The 40,000-square-foot lab features a Zeiss Anti-Reflective Coating Center, which will result in improved delivery times for eyewear jobs using that brand of AR coating, say company officials.

Prevent Blindness America (PBA) was awarded a three-year cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with a first year grant of $1 million. PBA will use the grant to fund its "National Vision Preservation Initiative," a public and private collaborative effort to develop an integrative, pioneering approach to eye health promotion and vision loss prevention.
Transitions Optical, Inc., has introduced the Heritage Lab Ambassador's Club program. The program, created exclusively for former Transitions Lab of the Year winners, provides Heritage labs with a customized strategic business plan for the year, plus marketing and event access for the labs and their customers. Future winners of Transitions Lab of the Year award will be automatically inducted into the Club.
GOOD DEEDS
Modo recently ran a green initiative called "A Gift that Keeps on Giving," in which one tree was planted for each holiday card sent out, totaling thousands of trees. Modo hopes to raise public interest on the importance of respecting and giving back to our planet.
