Special Olympics Partnership
Over the past three years, Essilor has donated about 30,000 corrective lenses to Special Olympics athletes who requirevision correction. We've just signed on to continue that partnership with the Special Olympics-Lions Club International Opening Eyes Program for another three years.
♦ Opening Eyes is the world's largest program dedicated to providing eyecare for people with intellectual disabilities. In addition to being the official global supplier of ophthalmic lenses to Opening Eyes, Essilor also participates in screenings, education on healthy vision, and eye exams for the Special Olympics.
KIDS & THE ENVIRONMENT
It's all about giving back. At Essilor, corporate conscience is more than a cliché. It's an integral part of who we are.
Essilor Vision Foundation
As part of our global commitment to reaching out, we established the Essilor Vision Foundation to help eliminate the obstacles that prevent families from getting eye exams and glasses for their children.
Approximately one in four American children has a vision problem, and, in some inner-city communities, that number rises to one out of two. The challenge? Getting the much-needed eye exams AND eyewear to those kids in need. To help, we provide screenings, complete eye exams, and eyeglasses to children who cannot afford them, and we go to their schools to do it. We also educate parents, teachers, and the public about good vision and the critical role it plays in learning.
Essilor Junior Lenses
As part of our commitment to children, we have designed lenses especially for them and their active lifestyles. We've also tied the sale of these lenses to our Foundation and will contribute one pair of Essilor Junior lenses to the Foundation for every five pairs sold.
If you have kids, be sure to ask about these safe and durable lenses—made from our Airwear polycarbonate material—that are specially designed for young, developing eyes to combat the constant wear and tear and need for cleaning that are common with kids' lenses.
We all share the space we call earth. We also need to share in the responsibility to clean it up. That's why Essilor has committed to going green in our production of Airwear lenses. ♦ We're reducing the material's environmental footprint by adopting new manufacturing practices that will save natural resources as well as cut 570,000 pounds of plastic waste every year. ♦ What does that number mean in the real world? Every ton of recycled plastic will save: the energy two people would use in a full year; the water an individual would use in two months; and around 2,000 pounds of oil. |
