Creating the Ultimate Experience
Chad E. Green OD, FAAO
Chad Green, OD, earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. He's brought that affinity for technology into Eyecare Greengate, which was founded by his father, who retired in 2010 after 43 years in practice.
Based in Greensburg, Pa., Dr. Green describes the operation as “a primary care practice in which we strive to provide the ultimate experience in eyecare and eyewear. So,” he adds, “the Visioffice® System fits perfectly.”
Over the years, “the dispensary has not had that many options for innovations,” says Dr. Green. “There are a lot of technology options in the exam room, and now Visioffice allows us to provide patients an experience in the optical they can't get anywhere else.
“It helps separate my practice—and my dispensary—from the masses. Plus, it gives me a chance to start customizing lens options to our patients' needs and desires.”
The point, he adds, “is to create an experience patients will remember the next time they need an eye exam.”
EDUCATING STAFF
What about training staff? “It is a very easy instrument to use. The most difficult part is learning about all the new lenses that are now available—and then fitting them into our prescribing habits,” says Dr. Green.
The benefit of doing so, he explains, is the addition “of a lot of the new digital lens technologies. We now use Varilux Physio Enhanced™ and Varilux Comfort Enhanced™ lenses, and we are listening to patients and trying to prescribe other products to make their progressive experience better. For example, we are now utilizing some eyecode™ and Varilux Ipseo® lenses, which we could never offer to our patients before having the Visioffice system.”
PATIENT PROCESS
And, how has the staff reacted? “At first, they were concerned that it might slow them down, but it has not hindered patient flow at all. In fact, it makes the entire process smoother.
“We always discuss the new lens technology in the exam room,” adds Dr. Green. “We show the patient our excitement for the options we can now give them. It helps that our doctors prescribe chairside. It makes the transition to the optician a lot easier, too.”
It all “just makes sense,” concludes Dr. Green. “A lot of lens technologies that are going to be introduced will be based on these measurements. If you aren't going to offer them to patients, your local competition most likely will.”
BENEFITS TO BUSINESS |
---|
Chad Green, OD, says that Visioffice benefits everyone—patients, the practice, and, of course, the bottom line. PATIENTS: “The benefits include accuracy of measurement, options for newer progressive lenses, and customization of treatments. Patients are very excited about having new options.” MARKETING: “Visioffice is a marketing and technology tool. You need to show patients that you are moving forward with technology. Doctors who choose not to will be left behind.” BOTTOM LINE: “Our philosophy is that if we do the best for our patients, it will also end up being the best for our practice.” |
