COATINGS ON DEMAND
With the goal of helping ECPs expand their in-house capabilities, Vision-Ease Lens has introduced MyCoat, a vacuum sputter coater that dispenses anti-reflective and mirror coatings within its compact dimensions, totalling 28 inches wide x 32 inches deep x 68 inches high.
The machine can coat six lenses at a time, with a cycle time of 15 minutes. In one hour, up to six pairs of lenses can be fully coated, front and back.
MyCoat’s AR and mirror coating formulas are compatible with all Vision-Ease Lens products, as well as those from alternate suppliers. Anti-reflective coatings include a standard option and Vision-Ease Lens’ premium five-layer, superhydrophobic Vivid AR. Mirror coatings offered include silver, gold, blue, or ruby, in full or flash finishes. Formulas are pre-installed on each machine for easy operation.

DISPENSING MADE EASY
Shamir Insight has launched Shamir Arch, an app that allows ECPs to immediately identify whether or not a chosen frame will work with their patient’s prescription, without having to call their lab or making the patient wait.
App users can enter the frame parameters, the patient’s PD, and the lens material, and Arch then provides the Rx range for the frame based on the given parameters. Arch also allows users to change the parameters to suit the patient’s needs. For instance, ECPs are able to change the lens materials to see how the prescription range changes, so they are able to offer different options to the patient.
Arch is designed for use with the Shamir Attitude lens designs and ECPs will be able to select the progressive or single vision design. A desktop version is expected to be released soon.
The app is free and available for Android and IOS devices.

CLEANING SOLUTION
Miraflow, an extra strength contact lens cleaner for contact lenses, is back on the market after being discontinued in 2010. According to William R. Martin, O.D., a private practice optometrist for 35 years who created the product and is now re-introducing it, Miraflow is an ideal cleaning solution for all soft lenses, silicone hydrogels, toric lenses, hard lenses, bifocal contacts, and scleral lenses.
Evolving from a lens with 38% water to lenses with 55% water, the newest silicone lenses provide the highest amount of oxygen for the cornea, but they can cause patients discomfort because of the mucus and protein build-up on the surface. Miraflow removes the mucus and protein build-up, something the all-in-one solutions can’t, according to Dr. Martin.
Patients should be instructed to place drops of Miraflow on the lenses and then rub them in the palm of their hand. Finish by rinsing the lenses with an all-in-one cleaners or sterile saline solution.

SOFTWARE ASSIST
Optovue’s newest device, the iScan, is designed to elevate the eye exam by leveraging next-generation, software-guided scanning technology. According to the company, the iScan system simplifies OCT technology, making it accessible to a range of eyecare professionals in any practice setting. With Optovue’s proprietary iWellness scan, iScan guides the patient through the entire exam and requires minimal operator involvement. The iWellness scan provides a cross-sectional view of the retinal layers, a retinal thickness map, and a ganglion cell complex map, enabling the doctor to identify signs of disease or otherwise confirm a patient’s ocular health.

LASH DEAL
MediNiche, Inc., has announced Lash Advance, a natural cosmeceutical for healthier lashes and brows. It is, according to the company, the first non-Rx lash product targeted exclusively for optical shop distribution. It is positioned for ECPs’ recommendation to patients as a first step to healthier lashes and for use prior to or in conjunction with Latisse (from Allergan). Introductory promotions are available.
Lash Advance contains a blend of natural ingredients that help lashes recover from environmental, chemical, and physical damage by hydrating, improving flexibility, and minimizing breakage. It does not contain drugs, parabens, petroleum products, propylene glycol, fragrances, or colorants. Nor does it contain bimatoprost, the active ingredient in Latisse and will not darken eyelids or change iris pigmentation. It can also be used on sparse or thinning brows.

DEFINE YOURSELF
Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., (JJVCI) has announced the initial launch of 1-Day ACUVUE Define brand contact lenses with Lacreon Technology, a new category of eye enhancement contact lenses that accentuate natural beauty while helping to support a healthy eye. It is available in a limited number of ECP offices now, with wider distribution beginning in 2015.
The contact lenses address a significant unmet need for natural-looking eye enhancement, according to the company. They have iris-inspired designs that combine an outer darker limbal ring to give eyes greater definition by creating contrast between the iris and sclera, and an inner translucent light-effects pattern to add depth and definition without changing the eye’s natural color.
1-Day ACUVUE Define brand will be available in plano and vision correction ranges from +1.00 to -9.00, with a base curve of 8.5 and diameter of 14.2mm. It is being introduced in three styles to complement all eye colors.
