RIDING THAT WAVE
Transitions Optical, Inc., has released an online education course, “Riding the Age Wave”, to help eyecare professionals educate patients on how normal healthy aging affects their vision, and to advise them on options for treatment that will restore, maintain, and enhance their vision.
The online course shows how the baby boomer generation has redefined the word “aging,” as they postpone retirement and look to maintain a lifestyle that demands enhanced vision. Overviewing the common visual issues baby boomers will experience as they age (such as light sensitivity and problems with glare), “Riding the Age Wave” demonstrates how Transitions lenses with an AR coating and digital design are a healthy aging solution that addresses these problems.

GERM PROTOCOL
The recent Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) epidemic in West Africa and the few confirmed cases in the U.S.—along with the flu and other seasonal health issues—underscore the importance for all health care providers to be educated about the illnesses and appropriate protocols to prevent the spread of these and other viruses if they are suspected in clinical practice.
Enterovirus D68 caused a nationwide outbreak in 47 states, and has been associated with severe respiratory illness. The more common influenza illness usually peaks in the U.S. between December and February, though seasonal flu can begin as early as October and continue to occur as late as May. Additionally, herpetic and adenoviral infections can occur any time of the year.
To provide O.D.s with the most up-to-date information on protecting themselves and their patients, the American Optometric Association (AOA) has published a new web page with a comprehensive overview of a variety of infectious diseases that optometric practices may encounter.
The information is intended as a refresher course on protocols.
