ORC & THE LAW

About 25 states have enacted legislation related to organized retail crime (ORC), including Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Nevada, and Colorado. According to the National Retail Federation (NRF) Organized Retail Crime Survey:

52% of retailers say states’ organized retail crime laws have positively impacted their ability to prosecute criminals and retail crime gangs.

33% of retailers have noticed a reduction in ORC activity where state laws exist.

“We are also looking to get federal legislation,” says Bob Moraca, vice president of loss prevention at the NRF. “If we can get to the federal level we will have the tools we need to go after some of these organized groups.”
