This month, The Optometric Business Tracker data reveals that, while exams and sales slowed slightly over June and July, the first half of September shows a slight uptick from that slowdown. This is slightly more notable in the area of patient payments, where higher capture rates and average dollar sales—realized from consumer desire for a single, efficient visit and purchase—are a testament to recovery.
Of course, eyecare practices across the country continue to see growth over the months of April and May, and in the face of the continuing pandemic. But, according to GPN, a unique trend is emerging.
“An interesting micro trend is occurring where there is a gap between practices’ revenue growth,” says Evan Kestenbaum, co-founder and COO of GPN. “A growing number of practices are further from breakeven compared to last year. A higher number of practices are showing greater than 15% growth or more than 15% reduction compared to last year. This could cause a shift in where patients continue to get their care into the future.”
