MOTOGP IS AN INTERNATIONAL SENSATION.
It’s one of the most popular sports in the world, with more than 20 races across 18 countries and four continents each season. Each year, the MotoGP race season is watched live by a television audience of more than 400 million viewers. On social media, MotoGP supersedes even Formula One, with 17.5 million followers on Facebook compared with F1’s 12 million.
And, like many sports, its fans can be diehards—in fact, recent research found that 75% of those who watch MotoGP on television say they would tend to choose a brand because they associate it with the sport.
Enter the global collaboration between Ducati—one of the key MotoGP race teams—and Carrera, the iconic eyewear brand from Safilo, for a four-year partnership for a unique, full range of eyewear and sunwear specially designed for two-wheel enthusiasts as well as lovers of all sports.
The Carrera | Ducati collection, which launched in North America last month via the optical channel, takes inspiration from the iconic design of Ducati’s most high-performance bike model—the Ducati Panigale V4. According to Safilo, each detail in the eyewear collection has been designed to be consistent with the bikes originated from Ducati’s design team.
The Carrera | Ducati collection’s signature element is an iconic detail on the temples inspired by the side view of the Ducati Panigale motorcycle. Lightweight materials include carbon fiber and titanium, and aerodynamic design lines also come into play and blend with functionality in the new eyewear collection.
Other collection features designed for motorcyclists include:
• Straight temples with metal inserts for those who want to wear their eyewear inside a motorcycle helmet. The temples are also adjustable for those who prefer a traditional temple that folds behind the ears.
• Shiny varnish treatment in the inner part of the temples to ensure maximum comfort when taking on and off, especially while wearing a helmet.
• For moto-centric branding, the Ducati logo will appear on the right lens of the sunglasses and the Ducati emblem will be placed outside the right end tip. Carrera’s logos will also show up on the left lens of the sunwear and outside the temples plus its signature—the iconic “C”—inside the left tip.
For the 2022 season, Ducati team riders Pecco Bagnaia and Jack Miller will be the stars of the Carrera | Ducati collection campaign. Carrera will also be riding with Ducati Corse, the motorcycle maker’s racing team division, through the entire championship season on Ducati’s red bikes at circuits all over the world at the podium and beyond.
