Dec. 10, 2020 — EyeQue, a consumer-facing company known for its smartphone-powered refraction device, has launched EyeQue VisionCheck 2, an optical smartphone attachment and mobile app. According to the company’s Kickstarter page, the product “uses MIT-patented technology to measure refractive error and provide EyeGlass Numbers—the lens power needed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.” The product will ship to backers of the campaign in Q2 2021.
Included with the EyeQue VisionCheck2 is the EyeQue PDCheck, designed to measure users’ pupillary distance. Once “EyeGlass Numbers” (EGNs) and pupillary distance are found from the device, U.S. users have the option of ordering EyeQue Try-On Glasses: “a low-cost, quick-shipping pair of test-glasses custom-made with your vision test results, so you can experience your EGNs before shopping for new glasses online.”
According to EyeQue, eyecare professionals can use the device for remote testing and to issue prescriptions without an in-office visit. In addition, the company shares that patient data is secure in a HIPAA-compliant EyeQue Cloud, which ECPs can access to make assessments, customize prescriptions, and monitor patient recovery.
