Two optical industry trade shows have shared updates on their plans for 2021.
Opti, an international trade show for optics and designed, which was scheduled to take place Jan. 8-10, 2021 in Stuttgart, has been cancelled. Show organizer GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH cited rising Covid-19 infection rates, travel restrictions, and feedback from the industry.
"The decision to cancel was really not an easy one for us," says Dieter Dohr, chairman of the management board of GHM. "We are now gathering our strength, looking to the future and directing our focus towards opti 2022, which will once again provide a positive impetus to the optical industry."
Opti 2022 will take place Jan. 14-16 in Munich.
Separately, Mido eyewear show, which was canceled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will celebrate its 50th Anniversary show from June 5-7, 2021, in Milan. Although the trade show typically takes place in February, show organizers hope that June will provide safer travel between countries.
"Mido 2021 in June is the best choice to get us back to our mission, to organize and maximize the opportunities for international trade, bringing new luster and vitality to this key sector," says Mido President Giovanni Vitaloni. "We have no doubt that our Italian and international visitors will appreciate the opportunity to visit Milan while the weather is fine and we reaffirm our intention to celebrate Mido’s 50th anniversary in an atmosphere of regained peace of mind."
