April 6, 2023 — The American Optometric Association (AOA) is alerting consumers to stop using EzriCare and Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Tears products by Global Pharma Healthcare since they have been linked to potential bacterial contamination. If used, these products increase the risk of eye infections that could result in blindness or death.
The AOA urges consumers who have used these products or have experienced any new irritation in their eyes to book an appointment with an optometrist.
Health care professionals and consumers should report any adverse effects from any medicine to the Food & Drug Administration’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program.
“As always, doctors of optometry are ready to serve the public and assist with patient’s concerns,” says AOA president Ronald L. Benner, O.D. “Regardless if an individual experiencing obvious symptoms, anyone who has used these products should alert their local doctor of optometry so they may assess the front surface of their eye for any problems during a comprehensive eye exam.”
