Feb. 20, 2024 — Beginning Friday, March 1, Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) will accept pre-applications for its grant program that supports sustainable, optometry-based projects for ending preventable blindness and vision impairment throughout the world. Organizations that pass this process will be invited to submit a full grant proposal in early April, and awarded grants will be announced in August.
OGS seeks to fund programs with a clear outline of optometry’s involvement in and benefits to the program, including the following:
- The establishment or support of optometry schools, eye clinics, vision centers, and optical labs
- Programs that provide eye exams and eyewear at low or no cost to underserved or marginalized populations and feature an optometry education and training component
- Integrated, long-term programs with a focus on sustainability
- Programs that foster optometry education and/or the development of the profession
To be considered, organizations must be nonpartisan and not part of a large corporation. There are no geographic restrictions, but priority will be given to programs that are in parts of the world where optometry is not a well-developed profession. Participants must submit proposals by Wednesday, March 20.
