Dec. 12, 2024 — A roundtable discussion on the World Council of Optometry (WCO) CooperVision Myopia Management Navigator, featuring three WCO myopia management ambassadors—Nicola Logan, Ph.D., MEd, MCOptom, SFHEA, FBCLA, global ambassador; Jagrut Lallu, MSc Specialty Lenses, BOptom, FIAOMC, Asia-Pacific ambassador; and Síofra Harrington, Ph.D., FAOI, European ambassador—is now available online. The ambassadors shared their perspectives on the educational tool and its role in advancing myopia care globally during the International Myopia Conference in Sanya, China.
The Navigator, launched in April 2024 through a partnership between WCO and CooperVision, is an interactive guide designed to support evidence-based myopia care in the three key areas of mitigation, measurement, and management. The free resource aims to help eyecare professionals adopt myopia management as a standard of care.
“With myopia reaching pandemic levels, the need to treat it proactively and slow its progression in children has never been greater,” says WCO president Sandra Block, O.D., MEd, MPH, FAAO, Dipl AAO. “Since launching earlier this year, the WCO CooperVision Myopia Management Navigator has already demonstrated its value in guiding eyecare professionals in those important conversations with young patients and their families while helping advance myopia management as the standard of care.”
“Our global ambassadors are leaders in the field of myopia management and are perfectly placed to introduce the Navigator to a wider audience and champion this cause,” says Elizabeth Lumb, BSc (Hons) MCOptom, FIACLE, FBCLA, director of global professional affairs, myopia, at CooperVision, who moderated the discussion. “Hearing Nicola, Jagrut, and Síofra share the feedback they’ve already received about the Navigator—and how it’s being used by both experienced eyecare professionals and those new to myopia management—highlights just how valuable they are in helping CooperVision and the WCO’s shared ambition in driving the adoption of myopia management with the support of this important resource.”
In addition to Drs. Logal, Lallu, and Harrington, the WCO-appointed team of ambassadors includes Ashley Wallace-Tucker, O.D., FAAO, FSLS, Dipl ABO. For their full biographies, click here.
