Nov. 2, 2023 — The American Optometric Association (AOA) has issued an alert regarding 26 eye drops that were recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to risk of eye infection, which could potentially lead to vision loss.
The recalled eye drops are marketed under the following brands: CVS Health, Leader (Cardinal Health), Rugby (Cardinal Health), Rite Aid, Target Up & Up, and Velocity Pharma. Click here for a full list of products.
The FDA shares it recommended manufacturers recall all lots on Oct. 25 after unsanitary conditions were discovered in the manufacturing facility, including positive bacterial test results from samples of key drug production areas.
According to the agency, CVS, Rite Aid, and Target have begun removing the products from their store shelves and websites. Leader, Rugby, and Velocity products may still be available for purchase and should be avoided.
The FDA has not yet received any adverse event reports associated with these products. Such events can be reported here.
