Mirror, Mirror… Santinelli International has introduced the Digital Mirror, a high-resolution, digital camera that is integrated within a dispensary mirror. The unit and its accompanying software, FashionLab, were both developed by Activisu Solutions. The system captures a digital image of the patient's face, allowing patients to view and customize various lens shapes on the image. Essilor of America has launched the Varilux Ellipse 360°, combining the newest digitally surfaced PAL technology from Varilux with a short corridor PAL design. The front side design of a Varilux 360° lens is aligned with the back of the lens using Point-By-Point Prescription Mapping software to create an optimized backside design. The combination of the design and 360° digital surfacing results in less distortion, greater accuracy, and wider fields of vision. BPI has introduced two new tints: BPI FL-41 and BPI Melanin. BPI FL-41 has been found to be beneficial when treating photophobia, blepharospasm, and migraines by blocking blue and green wavelengths. BPI Melanin mimics the natural sunlight protection pigment of the skin. This is a yellowish-brown color that has been chosen not just for its appearance, but also for the shape of the spectral curve that resembles that of natural melanin.
