Kevin Cross, a veteran of the optical industry, has joined Leybold Optics, USA, leading sales and marketing efforts for the U.S. Ophthalmic division. He will be responsible for building the U.S. sales and marketing team, and developing strategic alliances and industry partnerships. He previously worked for Carl Zeiss Vision. Kevin Cross of Leybold Optics, USA Optical industry veteran Steve Ross has joined NSL Analytical Services, Inc., as a manufacturer representative to the optical industry. NSL was recently selected as the preferred testing laboratory of The Vision Council. Ross, who has over 30 years of experience in the optical industry, is the former owner of Midwest Optical Laboratories in Ohio and is a past president of the Optical Laboratories Association. Bausch & Lomb Japan has named Francisco Ascencion president. He had served as interim president since mid-January. |
AWARDS
The American Optometric Foundation (AOF) recently announced the 2009 Vistakon Award of Excellence recipients. The award recognizes outstanding fourth-year student clinicians. Each winner receives a $1,000 award and a personalized plaque commemorating their accomplishment. A complete list of recipients can be viewed at the AOF's website, www.aaopt.org.
Brandon Mayes, a recent graduate of Northeastern State University's College of Optometry, was recently awarded a $6,000 scholarship from HOYA Vision Care, North America. HOYA representatives announced the winner during Optometry's Meeting at a luncheon that honored the grant and scholarship program's 15 finalists.
The National Optometry Hall of Fame honored Edwin C. Marshall, OD, and Charles Mullen, OD, for their contributions to optometry during Optometry's Meeting on June 26. Marshall is vice president for diversity, equity, and multicultural affairs and a professor of optometry at the Indiana University College of Optometry. Mullen is a former president of the Illinois College of Optometry.

Shamir recently announced its newest Shamir Autograph partner lab, Italee Optics of Los Angeles. Shamir previously had 11 partner labs selling Autograph.
VSP Vision Care announced a global sponsorship for Team Type 1, a team of amateur and professional cyclists and triathletes living with type 1 diabetes. VSP will be the exclusive eyecare and eyewear provider for the team.
PediaVision demonstrated its state-of-the-art PediaVision Assessment Solution (PAS) at the 33rd Annual Florida Suncoast Pediatric Conference in Clearwater, Fla., in June. PAS assists pediatricians in the detection of refractive errors, amblyopia, strabismus, anisocoria, and media opacities.
GOOD DEEDS
Vision-Ease Lens (VEL) was recently recognized by the Anoka County (Minn.) Board of Commissioners for its commitment to environmental sustainability through recycling and waste minimization, and for using 100 percent renewable energy for manufacturing lenses in 2008.

CORRECTION
In the Buyer's Guide section of the July issue of EB, Vistakon's Acuvue Oasys for Presbyopia was incorrectly called Acuvue Oasys "for Astigmatism for Presbyopia." The text should have read "Acuvue Oasys Brand Contact Lenses for Prebyopia."
