Well-Rounded Suns
Whether perfectly round or perfectly stylish, today's round sunglasses offer something for everyone
By Amy Spiezio
Smoothing out the points and edges, today's sunglasses are going for a rounder look, providing more flattering, easier-to-wear shapes than the linear looks that have ruled the runway in recent years. While perfect 360-degree styles might be a bit intimidating for some, there are plenty of curvy options this season.
CURVY CONSIDERATIONS
This year's crop of sunglass styles go beyond the traditional looks by adding layers of complexity and style development that includes the following rounded features:
• POTENT P3s: These ultra-classic round looks are freshened with layered and texturized finishes. Whether in metal or plastic, these often feature keyhole bridges for a decidedly retro feel.
• COMPLEX ROUNDS: Butterfly shapes now have semi-circular “wings,” providing a feast for the eyes.
• CLASSICS REVISITED: Wayfarers and Club-Master takes have been updated with rounded corners and temples for smoother, sleeker looks.
• OVERSIZED GLAMOUR: Jackie O rounds are eternal, whether in black, or the new blackpurple.
• CURVY CATS: All of the uplift without quite so much of the angularity, today's cats-eye styles are flattering in more ways than one.
• PETITE SWEEPS: Little rounds are chic for high myopes and plano fans alike.
DARE TO WEAR
Round sunglasses can be intimidating, but with today's wide range of styles, many face shapes can opt for round sunglasses. While oval faces can rock most rounds, those with square, oblong, or inverted triangle shapes will especially benefit from sunglasses with soft curves (inverted triangle and squares) or perfect rounds (oblong faces).
