Prevent Blindness America has announced that Zyloware Eyewear’s Bob and Henry Shyer are the 2014 Person of the Vision Award recipients. A dinner will be held on March 27, 2014 at the New York Palace.

Joseph T. Barr, a longtime faculty member of The Ohio State University College of Optometry, is a recipient of the Ohio State Alumni Association’s 2013 Ralph Davenport Mershon Award, presented to alumni who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service to Ohio State.

Brien Holden has been awarded the inaugural Optometry Giving Sight Humanitarian Award in recognition for his outstanding contribution in support of global efforts to help eliminate avoidable blindness and impaired vision and reduce the disability, poverty, and lack of opportunity associated with vision loss.

Smith Optics has earned its third consecutive Gear of the Year Award from National Geographic Adventure with its new ChromaPop lens technology, capturing a coveted spot in the Fall/Winter 2013 guide. The color and visual clarity enhancing lenses are featured among the 25 “game-changing, best of season” new products as tested and selected by the media outlet.

GOOD DEEDS

At its Sixth Annual Gala, held at the Hyatt Regency Wichita, KS, Envision, Inc., raised $300,000 in support of its mission to improve the quality of life and provide inspiration for the blind and visually impaired through employment, outreach, rehabilitation, education, and research.

Vision-Ease Lens partnered with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to provide a new home for a local family in time for the Christmas holiday. In addition to monetary donations and food and refreshments, 57 Vision-Ease employees volunteered to help renovate an existing home donated by Bank of America in Brooklyn Park, MN.
