Maybe it’s a desire to set sail into exciting new worlds. Maybe it’s the need to experience nature at its most beautiful. Maybe it’s just indulging in a fantasy of escape from the doldrums of day-to-day life. With many lines of inspiration, nautical fashion has set sail for the center of style this spring and can be seen in eyewear and sunwear offerings.
The nautical look is one that taps into nature and history while moving into the future.
Look for the following sea-inspired elements in eyewear and sunwear this season.
THE COLORS OF THE SEA. Blues in every hue will be on the frame boards this spring for men, women, and children alike. A growing trend for sea glass colors of matte green, blue, and brown provides a softer take on color.
Another take on the seafaring color palette is a coordinating earthtone, with tortoise and browns representing the teak and cedar of decks and docks, while ultra-light tans and taupes blow through with a sandy take on the oceanic theme.
ELEMENTS OF STYLE. Stripes, stars, and sailcloth are just a few of the seaside inspriations that will enliven wardrobes this spring as fashion sets sail with strong nautical trends providing a fresh and fun look.
In ophthlamic and sunglass models, zyls are stacked with both nautical stripe color blocks and small star screw heads that can be seen anchoring hinges on some hot frames.
TIED TO THE OCEAN. Another aspect of oceanic chic is the mini trend of rope detailing.Whether it’s acetate knots on temples, corded detailing sliding along the browbar, or rope textured surface finishes, eyewear styles are tangled up in fresh new line looks.

Some years ago—never mind how long precisely— having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world.
