The newest freeform sun lenses from Shamir Insight, Inc., offer three versions of the new Attitude III design to best suit patients’ visual and sunwear needs.

SHAMIR ATTITUDE III–FASHION is a performance sun lens that provides PAL wearers a solution for their day-to-day outdoor needs. The lens has expanded vision zones (with balanced far, intermediate, and near zones) and enhanced peripheral vision in a design that fits in even the biggest fashion sunglass frames. It is available in two fitting heights: 15mm and 18mm.

SHAMIR ATTITUDE–SPORT is a specialized progressive lens suited for sports and active lifestyles featuring a wide and distortion-free far vision zone, ideal for dynamic sports. The corridor has been designed for optimal vision of the “Safety Zone,” a three- to 16-foot area in front of the athlete, critical for sports, which must be monitored continually in order to identify obstacles in his or her path. It is available in an 18mm fitting height.

SHAMIR ATTITUDE III–SV provides single vision patients with maximized visual comfort for all of their sport and outdoor needs, with expanded peripheral vision and a design to fit any sunglass frame size and shape.

All three designs utilize Shamir’s EyePoint Technology III and As-Worn Quadro technologies, which provide increased visual stability and improved viewing experience. The Fashion and Sport designs also utilize the company’s IntelliCorridor and Natural Posture technologies, which help customize the design and zone placement to the patient’s Rx.

Briot USA offers a new optical tablet device to assist opticians with fast and accurate measurements, frame selection, and lens option descriptions along with an enhanced virtual reality feature. The portable and lightweight tablet allows for Opti Tab to be used virtually anywhere and assists practices who visit offices and homes of patients for their eyewear selection.

Opti Tab features an all-in-one measurement capture with just one photograph.

The virtual reality option offers the ability to use different environments, adjust necessary add power, choose specific viewing angles, and show patients the performance of lenses being considered in the type of environment where they will actually be used.

Essilor of America’s new, high-definition Visioffice 2 dispensing platform allows ECPs to provide a full range of accurate patient measurements, detailed and consumer-friendly patient education modules, and access to exclusive Varilux lenses. Visioffice 2 has been expanded by 18 inches to accommodate more patients, and it features a new measurement option for Fitting Height Optimization to ensure natural and accurate fitting for every patient. An enhanced frame styling module allows patients to easily compare up to eight different styles using a drag-and-drop interface.

Signet Armorlite has released its latest lens offering, the KODAK Unique HD progressive lens. The lenses offer all the features of the KODAK Unique lenses as well as an added level of individual patient customization. The high-definition aspect reflects the fact that the lenses use point-of-wear (P-O-W) measurements (pantascopic tilt, vertex distance, wrap angle, and reading distance) to highly customize the design to the patient’s unique visual needs.

Eyecare practices can capture the P-O-W measurements using the KODAK Lens IDS (Intelligent Dispensing Software). Default measurements are available if the IDS isn’t used.

THE X FACTOR

Coburn Technologies’ latest consumable for retail and wholesale labs is the X-Edge finish blocking pad. The pads are designed for general-use lens edging applications including uncoated, hard-coated, and standard AR lenses.

Coated on both sides with a high cohesive-strength, synthetic rubber PSA, the high-density, cross-linked EVA copolymer foam creates a pad that can resist high shearing forces while still providing easy and clean removal from the lens, Coburn notes, adding that the pads outperform other brands (including 3M) in end-user tests.

X-Edge pads are available in a variety of sizes and shapes to accommodate a large variety of finish blocks.

SLURRY UP

The new 915 Central Slurry System from Practical Systems, Inc., (PSI) is a compact system designed to consolidate slurry for digital processing. With a 23-gallon capacity, it reduces the number of chillers and slurry tanks needed by half. With two pumps and a two-filter system, it can handle high volumes of polish. When used with a PSI 985 chiller, it will maintain polish at the optimum temperature for superior lens surface quality.

The 915 is one of three Central Slurry Systems offered by PSI: the 913 has an 11-gallon tank and the 911, used in smaller labs, has a five-gallon capacity.
