Seiko Optical Products of America introduces 1.74 Finished Single Vision Aspheric Transitions VII with Surpass Easy Clean Plus AR coating to its line of 1.74 high-index lenses. The coating provides the lenses with outstanding super hydrophobic and anti-static protection, according to the company.

Seiko 1.74 Transitions VII lenses are the thinnest and lightest finished photochromic lenses available, and have the added benefits of factory-applied anti-static Surpass ECP AR for superior optical performance, company representatives note, adding that Surpass ECP AR performs as well or superior to other popular brands. It is engineered to counteract deterioration due to UV, humidity, and normal temperature fluctuations.

Seiko 1.74 Finished Single Vision Aspheric Transitions VII Surpass ECP lenses are available in gray, and also include a no-slip protector for swift and accurate edging. The power ranges from -3.00 to -10.00 sphere, out to a -2.00 cylinder.

Vision-Ease Lens has added clear plastic to its Anthology family of progressive lenses. The Novel and Novella had previously been available only in polycarbonate and in plastic photochromic.

According to company representatives, the lenses are made with the most advanced conventional PAL technology available, for crisp vision at a superior value. Novel clear progressives are available in 80mm diameter for -10.00 to +6.50 spheres, up to -4.00 cylinder. Tech Optics International has introduced its new line of Task-Vision portable electronic digital magnifiers that are designed to make life easier for low vision/macular degeneration patients, or for anyone who needs magnification for home or the workplace.

The magnifiers are available in a variety of models from basic to multi-functional. They work like a mini-magnifying computer. The four newest models have LCD screens, adjustable brightness levels, and can enlarge, reduce, or freeze images. They are also lightweight, portable, easy-to–use, and powerful (3x to 18x and up). Users may select full color, positive/negative, high contrast, and color: blue/white, black/yellow, blue/yellow, and black/green. They can connect to any TV or monitor or be used alone.

Soothe Xtra Protection (XP) eye drops with Restoryl are now available from Bausch + Lomb. Restoryl is a unique emulsion system featuring a proprietary blend of mineral oils and interfacial molecules. The eye drops target the main source of dry eye symptoms by replenishing the lipid layer of the tear film.

According to the company, a compromised lipid layer of the tear film, which results in tear evaporation, is the deficiency most commonly associated with dry eye symptoms. The product on shelf is now preserved with polyquaternium-1 (PQ1) and has a borate buffer system—both are widely used in ophthalmic formulations.

Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., has announced that effective March 31, 2015, ACUVUE Advance brand contact lenses, ACUVUE Advance brand for astigmatism, and ACUVUE Advance Plus brand will be discontinued and revenue lenses will no longer be available. All remaining parameters of ACUVUE Brand contact lenses also will be discontinued on March 31, 2015. Diagnostic lenses for ACUVUE Advance brand and ACUVUE Advance brand for astigmatism, and ACUVUE Advance Plus have previously been discontinued.

The company reports it will provide in-office tools to help transition patients to the most current ACUVUE technology, and is offering a fitting fee reimbursement of up to $100 when ACUVUE Advance brand family or ACUVUE brand wearers are prescribed an annual supply of any product in the ACUVUE OASYS brand family, 1-Day ACUVUE Moist brand family, or 1-Day ACUVUE TruEye brand contact lenses.

PSI’s LenSaver Performance Tape is now available in three sizes. Roll sizes have been designed to fit into Automatic Surface Tape Applicators (ASTA), maximizing output with fewer roll changes and saving time and money. The new 60-yard roll comfortably fits into a carbide cutter ASTA, while the hot knife ASTA will accommodate the 108-yard roll.
