SHARPER PROTECTION
To provide patients with protection against blue light, VSP Optics Group has launched Sharper Image TechShield. It is the first product to stem from the licensing agreement that allows VSP Optics Group to make and distribute optical-related products under the Sharper Image brand.
Sharper Image TechShield delivers targeted blue light protection in a proprietary, near-clear lens enhancement. Its unique defense technology provides comprehensive protection by both absorbing and deflecting incoming blue light to reduce the wearer’s amount of exposure.
“Blue light is illuminating today’s digital world, and a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that it poses threats to our vision and health. By leveraging Sharper Image’s innovative brand and commitment to bringing life-improving technology to consumers, ECPs can easily discuss the necessity for protection with their patients and reduce their exposure to blue light with Sharper Image TechShield.”
— DAVE DELLE DONNE, senior vice president, business development, VSP Optics Group
In a recent survey of VSP providers, 82% reported an increase in patients experiencing the harmful effects caused by blue light exposure, which can include eye strain, macular degeneration, and disrupted sleep patterns.
Sharper Image TechShield is available exclusively through VSPOne Optical Technology Centers and VSP’s contract laboratory network.

XTRACTIVE EXPANSIONS
HOYA Vision Care and Younger Optics have both expanded their lens portfolios to include Transitions XTRActive lenses in brown.
Transitions XTRActive lenses are everyday adaptive lenses that offer patients extra protection from light outdoors, indoors, and in the car. Earlier this year, Transitions announced that XTRActive lenses would be available in brown, in addition to the popular gray.
From a fashion perspective, Transitions XTRActive lenses in brown give eyecare professionals a new opportunity to cater to patients who prefer the look of brown photochromic lenses or wish to complement a specific frame. A brown lens also offers high contrast, an added benefit that many eyeglass wearers find valuable.
The new color is available in many of Younger’s and Hoya’s lens designs. See their respective websites for information.

HIGH-ADD LENSES
Bausch+Lomb announces the expansion of Biotrue ONEday for presbyopia (nesofilcon A) contact lenses with the addition of a high-add power range from +6.00D to -9.00D (0.25D steps). This addition will now provide eyecare practitioners the full power offering of the lenses for their multifocal patients.
Biotrue ONEday lenses for presbyopia combine the bio-inspired material of Biotrue ONEday with Bausch+Lomb’s 3-Zone Progressive optical design used in PureVision2 multifocal contact lenses for presbyopia. Biotrue ONEday for presbyopia contact lenses are also the first daily disposable multifocal contact lens from the Biotrue ONEday family of products, which are designed to work like the eye by matching the cornea’s water content and mimicking the lipid layer by using a surfactant-enriched lens surface to retain moisture and shape, according to the company.
ECPs can direct patients to a new consumer-facing website to learn more about Biotrue ONEday and Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia contact lenses (biotrueonedaylenses.com).

A NATURAL VIEW
Visioneering Technologies, Inc., (VTI) based in Alpharetta, GA, has launched its NaturalVue Multifocal 1-Day daily disposable contact lens for patients with presbyopia.
The lenses’ Neurofocus Optics technology represents smarter thinking in presbyopia solutions, according to the company. The lens works with the brain to give the patient spectacle-level stereoacuity and vision at near, intermediate, and at a distance.
NaturalVue lenses are designed to be easy to fit, similar to a single-vision spherical lens. With one base curve, one diameter, and one universal ADD—which accommodates up to 3.00D of equivalent near power—NaturalVue multifocal lenses have an 89% fitting success rate, reduced office visits, and require less time to fit, according to VTI research.
