The summer parade of music festivals naturally includes a parade of “it” girls in their field-friendly fashions of the day. One of the granddaddies of festivals, Glastonbury in Scotland, blended short shorts and high boots with the chic-est of sunglasses. “Completely impossible” is a phrase which James Lawrence, known as the ‘Iron Cowboy,’ has heard more than a few times. Having already set two world records, including most full-distance triathlons completed in a year in 2012, he has completed 50 full-distance triathlons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days, from June 6 to July 25.

With Rudy Project providing his sunglasses and helmets (here, he wears Skymajors), Lawrence met his own challenge as an effort to raise awareness of childhood obesity. “When I first heard of the 50-50-50, I literally said, ‘you’ve got to be joking’,” remarked Paul Craig, president and co-founder of Rudy Project North America. “However, when I spoke with James and came to understand his amazing goal and his super-human passion, it instantly clicked.”

Lawrence’s feat included biking 5,600 miles, running 1,310 miles, and swimming 120 miles. In total, he raced over 7,030 miles.
