A CLOSER LOOK
RX SENSE
The Bollé 6th SENSE, the company’s most advanced performance model to date, is now available for those who need prescription lenses. Engineered for cycling with an extra-wide field of vision and enhanced protective zone, the Rx model features two prescription inserts that are fitted directly and permanently into the oversized shield.
With Bollé’s proprietary B-Thin Active Design Rx program, the market’s widest range of prescriptions can be accommodated (+6.00 to -8.00 [-4.00 cyl]), according to the company. As is the case with the one-piece shields of non-prescription 6th SENSE models, the Rx inserts are made with Trivex, an ultra-light, extremely shatter-resistant material with visual clarity similar to mineral glass.
For athletes needing prescription eyewear, the advantages are clear,” says Bill Yerby, director of sales and marketing. “With this new technology, we completely eliminate the need for bulky and inconvenient inserts or clip-ons.”
There are 12 different lenses in the Rx program, including multiple tints, and polarized and Modulator (photochromic) options. Eight additional lenses in the special Pro-Series will have inserts with contrasting mirror finishes.
An additional model in Bollé’s Competitor Cycling collection, Vortex, is also now available with Rx inserts using the same technology.

IN-OFFICE PROCEDURE
BlephEx, LLC, a company led by ophthalmologist James Rynerson, M.D., announces a medical device allowing doctors to perform a painless, in-office procedure to treat blepharitis.
The BlephEx handpiece enables ECPs to reduce scurf, bacterial debris, and the biofilm, thereby improving the overall health of the eyelid. BlephEx features a medical-grade, disposable, micro-sponge that spins along the edge of eyelids and lashes, exfoliating the eyelids. A numbing eye drop is given prior to the procedure.
Following the six- to eight-minute procedure, patients often report a near immediate resolution of the chronic eye irritation associated with blepharitis and an eventual resumption of normal tear production, the company reports.
