BEATING THE BLUES
The post-holiday retail season can be a challenging time to keep staff morale high and customers engaged. Here are some tips.
FOR CUSTOMERS:
✔ Run sales on items that were NOT promoted during the holiday season
✔ Create a special January event for your store or shopping district, then cooperatively promote the event (try making it an annual thing!)
FOR STAFF:
✔ Display the picture of the employee(s) who went above and beyond during holiday hours
✔ Award the staff with a surprise (and paid) day off
✔ Tell each employee how he or she made an impact during the holiday season, and that you appreciated it

ALERT! ALERT!
Looking for a fun way to educate patients about just how much UV they are exposed to each day? Try a “Today’s UV Index” board in your shop or practice. Advertise your region’s UV index on a daily basis—the information is available from the National Weather Service (weather.gov/rah/uv). It’s a great way to start a conversation about proper sunwear.
Make sure your winter sports participants understand how UV levels change with elevation and snow cover. Add facts such as the following nuggets to your index board.
Snow reflects up to 80% more UV from the sun
UV exposure increases 4% to 5% with each 1,000 feet of elevation
