A NEW VARILUX WAVE
Essilor of America announces a new generation of Varilux progressive lenses that are completely digitally engineered. The range is being supported by a national consumer campaign to drive traffic to the new Varilux.com, and create more searches on the site’s ECP locator.
“We anticipate that the introduction of a new range of Varilux lenses, complemented by sustained consumer advertising, will continue to drive increased patient interest. With this new range of 100% digitally engineered lens designs, we’re confident ECPs will find a Varilux lens design to meet their individual patients’ unique vision needs and lifestyle preferences.”
— LAURI CRAWFORD, senior vice president of marketing, Essilor of America
All Varilux designs—Comfort, Physio, S Series—also feature W.A.V.E. (Wavefront Advanced Vision Enhancement) Technology 2, Essilor’s next-generation lens technology. It allows lens designers to customize wavefront correction to the patient’s needs, and identify and manage the distortions that occur in progressive lenses due to changes in curvature across the lens. The result is sharp vision at every distance, even in low light, according to the company.
Essilor will provide ECPs with comprehensive training and streamlined, patient-friendly messaging around the new designs, to facilitate selection of the best visual solution for patients.
The comprehensive Varilux consumer campaign includes television advertising, radio, online, and print media. The campaign will also utilize new Varilux P.O.P. tools for ECPs, which offer a direct link between the advertising and the ECP practice.

GOING SONIC
Safilens has launched its Sonic Wave Generator 2.0 (SWG), an upgraded version of the sonication device for its Open Care System for monthly lenses.
The sonic waves released by the SWG combined with Open Reload—an all-in-one solution with a high concentration of Fusion co-polymer that uses a superior quality hyaluronic acid—ensure that deposit build-up is removed and hyaluronic acid and Tamarind Seed Polysaccharide are reabsorbed during the night. This guarantees a regenerated spherical or cylindrical lens every day.
Sonic Wave Generator 2.0 comes with a mini-USB rechargeable battery and cable (with a 45-day battery lifetime) and a 25% more powerful engine than the previous version.
The frequency range is broader and sinusoidal to recondition the entire surface of the lens and the pulsating blue light is equal to a bactericidal and fungicidal wavelength.

MONO A MONO
Looking for something to jazz up your readers collection? Monocles are growing in popularity with people looking to make a fashion statement or who need magnification for occasional reading tasks but don’t want to carry around reading glasses. Nearsights, a leading monocle retailer, has added designs to its line to serve a larger group of patients, including women and those who engage in outdoor activities. They are available in a range of colors, frame materials, and magnification (from plano to +4.00).
The company has added a “small” monocle (34mm) to its 37mm and 40mm models, making it perfect for women. It has also introduced a Rugged Tactical Monocle (RTM), made for active wearers. The RTM has a polycarbonate lens and a durable silicon frame, and is attached to a tough chain and worn around the neck for easy access. It is available in two shapes—dog tag and circle—and in two colors (black and urban camo).
