A CLOSER LOOK
EVERYDAY DIGITAL PALs
Recognizing an unmet need among progressive wearers for protection against digital eye strain, ZEISS has introduced the Precision family of progressive lenses, with “Digital Inside” technology that reduces the symptoms of digital eye strain for frequent users of smartphones, tablets, and other digital devices. Digital Inside technology accounts for both the shorter reading distance and increased convergence associated with the digital devices’ shorter viewing distance. The new family includes ZEISS Precision Pure, ZEISS Precision Plus, ZEISS Precision Superb, with the upgraded ZEISS Individual 2 remaining the flagship ZEISS progressive.
Other new technologies in the lens design include: FrameFit+ Technology, which provides an optimal near zone even in challenging frames like aviators; and Luminance Design Technology, which delivers the optimal lens design based on full light bundles measured across the pupil, for increased clarity at all light levels.

“Adults check their mobile phones an average of 100 times per day, and many spend up to nine hours per day viewing some kind of digital screen. This means that to provide outstanding all-day vision, progressive designs must help patients view their digital devices without strain.” — ULI KRAUSS, president and CEO of ZEISS Vision Care North America

NOSE PAD HELP
The Silicone Adhesive Nose Pad Cushion Kit from Santinelli International includes 30 pairs of individually wrapped cushions in three sizes: small, medium, and large. The cushions are neatly packaged in a self-contained point-of-purchase countertop display that keeps them highly visible for resale or available for complimentary customer “thank you” gifts.
These cushions will enhance the wear-ability of acetate or zyl frames by adhering a thin silicone cushion layer on the nose pads—perfect for patients who have a problem with frames sliding down their nose. They also provide a cushioning effect and reduce pressure marks that may appear on the skin due to contact with plastic.

EZ FIT APP
The PureVision2 Multi-Focal Fit Guide mobile app from Bausch + Lomb is designed to help ECPs successfully fit patients into PureVision2 for Presbyopia contact lenses. According to the company, fitting a multifocal contact lens on a patient takes 2.6 attempts on average. The new app streamlines the fitting process and reduces patient chair time and the need for follow-up visits.
ECPs can calculate the initial lens selection by directly entering the patient’s sphere and cylinder information, including ADD, based on the patient’s most recent refraction. Following an evaluation of the performance of initial lens selection on the eye, the ECP will determine if further refinement is needed to improve distance or reading vision. A simple selection in the app will provide instantaneous feedback and an updated lens recommendation.

SHAMIR ENTERS AR WORLD
Shamir Insight, Inc., has launched its first AR coating for the U.S. market, Glacier PLUS UV.
The coating was developed based on the specific properties and characteristics of the company’s lens substrates. The hard coat used is customized based on which particular molecular properties work best with Shamir’s specific lens materials, producing a unique “Material Match Hard Coat” process. The entire Glacier PLUS UV AR Coating stack has been developed as a precise “recipe” based on each lens material and customized hard coat.
“We are pleased to offer such a revolutionary AR coating to the market. The test results have been extremely positive and we are excited to expand into a different aspect of the market.”
—MARK BECKER, VP of marketing and strategic partnerships, Shamir Insight
The coating has a unique matte finish that provides dramatically reduced cosmetic glare on the lens and reduces visual glare for the wearer. Its Newton Ring Reduction Technology uses a material match process that reduces Newton Rings (birefringence). Glacier PLUS UV also has a Slippery PLUS hydrophobic and oleophobic top layer that repels liquids and allows effortless cleaning for the patient.
Shamir Glacier PLUS UV is available on all Shamir Freeform lens designs and is eligible for Shamir’s ReCreating Perfect Vision (RCPV) rewards program, earning 750 points for each pair dispensed.

BLUE LIGHT ADLENS
Adlens Interface is an adjustable focus eyewear product designed to help combat blue light and other eye strain associated with digital screen use. According to the company, Adlens Interface blocks 80% of harmful blue light, which could make a significant contribution to eye health for those who regularly use screens, as well as limit the symptoms of digital eye strain. Interface uses Adlens’ Alvarez lens technology, in which wave-shaped plates glide across each other at the turn of a dial, changing the focus power level, which enables the wearer to set their required level of focusing power for screens at all distances.
