EDITOR’S LETTER
A Long Way Home
It all changed on September 11, 2001.
I was a magazine editor living in New York City, where I had found my way into the optical industry as the editor of Eyecare Business’ award-winning FrameBuyer magazine and then, subsequently, as the editor-in-chief of 20/20 magazine. I had also moved into the consumer magazine arena as the editor-in-chief/founding editor of two urban style magazines, Playboy Enterprises’ The Zone and the award-winning Soho Style magazine.
But, after a 10-year career launching and redesigning magazines, I stood on Greenwich Street in front of my apartment building that day and saw the world—including my own—change forever.
Within a year, I launched a freelance writing career and purchased a motorhome, which was pointed west towards the mountains and open spaces of this country. Long story short—my years-long road trip eventually landed me in Durango, CO, where I started a family and built my business.
My work as the fashion & market editor and special projects editor for Eyecare Business was the cornerstone of my business, and my writing appeared in publications ranging from The New York Times and National Geographic Adventure to American Cowboy and Outside magazine.
Today, I begin a new journey with an old friend. I am very honored to follow in the highly accomplished footsteps of Steph De Long as the new editor-in-chief and editorial director of Eyecare Business. And, I truly look forward to continuing to serve you, our readers, with the same high-quality, high-integrity, and cutting-edge information that has made EB the most respected magazine in the market, while also delivering some exciting new directions.
Kindest Regards,
Erinn Morgan
Editor-in-Chief + Editorial Director,
Eyecare Business
THANKS FOR THE…
For those of you reading this in Vegas, welcome to Vision Expo West. We hope you’ll have a chance to say hi to EB’s new editor-in-chief and editorial director, Erinn Morgan.
This month, I’m pleased to share this page with Erinn. Going forward, you’ll see my byline, but not in this spot.
What a ride. And, what a great job…covering the constantly changing optical landscape and working with so many terrific people on all sides of the aisle.
I look forward to working on projects and articles and am deeply indebted to all of you for 25 years of fun, friendship, and incredible opportunities.
Anyone who knows me well realizes how much I have loved creating fresh content every month with the Eyecare Business team. And, a great team that is. Under Erinn’s leadership, I know we’ll continue to grow, thrive, and expand.
When I was little, I loved Bob Hope. “Thanks,” as he used to say, “for the memories.” And, for much, much more!
Stephanie K. De Long
