Essilor Focuses on the Blue with Smart Filter

Essilor of America is going blue at Vision Expo East, as it launches several new products designed to help patients with digital eye strain symptoms and the effects of blue light exposure.

The company’s Smart Blue Filter provides embedded protection against harmful blue-violet light while allowing the beneficial blue-violet light to pass through an aesthetically clear lens. It will be embedded in all Varilux designs, Transitions lenses, and the new Eyezen+ lenses, at no additional cost.

Eyezen+ lenses, also launching this month, provide an enhanced, single-vision solution for patients complaining of eye strain. These lenses include the Smart Blue Filter feature as well as a small amount of accommodative relief to alleviate eye strain caused by viewing digital devices such as tablets and smart phones. There are three unique Eyezen+ lens designs available, and the patient’s age will determine which design is right for them.

Essilor is also launching its Power of Vision promotion, which allows patients to receive a rebate of up to $90 by mail when they purchase select Essilor brands, at no cost to the eyecare professional. An ECP enrollment period will be reopened during VEE.

New High-Index Line

Vision Ease is launching a new line of single-vision 1.67 high-index lenses, offering customers a thin and lightweight lens option. The new product line is a result of Vision Ease’s recent acquisition of South Korean lens manufacturer Daemyung Optical Co. Ltd.

Availability includes finished and semi-finished lenses in aspheric and spherical designs, along with both scratch-coat and non-scratch-coat options.

Customers can also choose from MR7 and MR10 resins.

Fast and Thin

FastGrind, from Super Optical International, is debuting a new lens material. VisionAir 1.56 index is used exclusively for FastGrind’s new ADDvantage HD Plus digital progressive and single-vision lenses. VisionAir 1.56 provides ECPs the ability to offer their patients optical clarity with thinner, lighter lenses, while also saving money with FastGrind, the all-in-one lens surfacing system.

VisionAir 1.56 allows practices to accommodate a wider prescription range without the concern for thick, bulky lenses or limited frame options. The single-vision Rx range is -10.00 to +9.00. VisionAir is also available in a new photochromic, Conversion, made exclusively by FastGrind.

The unit’s on-board tracer offers heightened levels of shape-detection and size-measurement accuracy for a wide array of frames, including sport styles. Luzerne Optical Laboratories launches an addition to its TheraBlue lens line: TheraBlue Sun for UV and HEV blue light protection outdoors. As with the TheraBlue clear lens for indoor wear that launched last fall, the UV and blue light protection comes from the lens material itself—not a coating.

TheraBlue Sun provides improved visual clarity and color perception, glare protection, and, of course, blue light and UVA/B protection. It is compatible with a variety of AR coatings, if one is desired.

The poly polarized lens is available in single vision, digital single vision, digital progressive, computer lenses, and digital round seg bifocals, as well as in stock plano.

HOYA Vision Care announces the U.S. launch of Sensity, a brand-differentiating photochromic lens technology in both gray and brown. Sensity lenses feature Stablight Technology, which ensures the lenses perform consistently in varying climates and temperatures, according to HOYA.

A full line of free-form progressive and single-vision lens designs, materials, and anti-reflective treatments is available. Demonstration kits are also available.

Sensity is a premium product, and priced accordingly. However, loyal HOYA accounts will be offered introductory pricing that will be on a par with other photochromic brands, the company notes.

The lenses’ WetLoc technology mimics the moisture dispersion of naturally healthy eyes, and their high oxygen transmissibility helps maintain ocular health.

Clariti 1-day multifocal lenses feature a base curve of 8.6mm, a diameter of 14.1mm, and a Dk/t (@-3.00D) of 86, with a power range of +5.00 to -6.00D (0.25 steps) with ADD powers of low (up to +2.25D) and high (+2.50 to +3.00D).

Wiley X has introduced WX Blue, a blue-light-filtering AR treatment for its lenses. By filtering blue light, WX Blue reduces the risk of potential eye damage and reduces digital eye fatigue and symptoms associated with Computer Vision Syndrome. While filtering the harmful blue light, Wiley X Blue lets the beneficial turquoise blue light pass through.

WX Blue has superoleophobic, anti-static, and scratch-resistant properties to repel dust, smudges, and water. The treatment also provides front- and back-side UV protection.
