THE NEWEST EYEWEAR FROM AROUND THE GLOBE
MOD TRIBE
Prada from Luxottica debuts the Prada Mod Spring/Summer 2016 collection with two sun models and two ophthalmic models, spearheaded by elegant 1960s-inspired design, acetate detailing, and metal profiles. The color palette includes classic shades like Black, Tobacco, Marble, and White, as well as bright hues such as Red and Blue. Pictured is PR 59SS, a squared sunglass with touches of color on the temples.
Model Vanessa Moody stars as the leader of the “Mod Tribe” in an exclusive digital film for the collection, made up of eight scenes intermixing writer Alan Sillitoe’s literary mantra, “Whatever people say I am, that is what I am not.” The digital film is a contemporary interpretation of the British Mod culture and its bold ideology held by confident and international freethinkers.
Suggested retail pricing is $350 for optical and $430 for sun.

BRINGING BURBANK BACK
l.a.Eyeworks Releases New Edition of Iconic Frame From the ’80s
As a complement to its Spring/Summer 2016 collection, l.a.Eyeworks unveils a modern edition of Burbank, a frame composed of minimalist construction and daring geometry that made its original debut in 1988. The frame’s original proportions and signature elements, including spring-post nose pads, have been maintained in the new edition.
Burbank features dramatic angles and flat-base lenses with a frame made of cobalt and beta titanium. Available in an ophthalmic style and as sunglasses, the new edition of Burbank will be available in Black, Silver, and Gold.
When first released in the late ‘80s, Burbank was embraced on fashion runways, and it made appearances in l.a.Eyeworks’ signature portrait campaign (photographed by Greg Gorman) on the faces of celebrities such as Eartha Kitt.
Suggested retail pricing is $550 for ophthalmic and $585 for sun.

TO THE MARKET:
“With its right angles and striking flatness, Burbank was a challenging notion from an optician’s perspective, not to mention the difficulties of production at that time,” says Barbara McReynolds, co-designer of l.a.Eyeworks with Gai Gherardi. “It pushed against the boundaries of what you were supposed to do in frame design. It was the bumblebee of eyewear—it wasn’t supposed to fly. But it did fly, and we’ve always been very proud of Burbank.”
