What does tomorrow’s optical look like? Three optical design firms lay out the look of the future exclusively for EB. Take a tour of the most innovative elements right here
Step into the optical shop of the future.
What’s in store? With interactive photo booths, tons of touch screens, and sleek lounges (coffee, anyone?), high-tech and in-check store design is right at your fingertips—keeping customers in store instead of online.
“Medical equipment and instruments are the core of the business, but always hidden and not featured,” says Helen Rogic, president at One Interior. “The transparency of the space, and individual stages in the practice, and the presented high-tech instruments make the patient understand and appreciate the value ECPs provide, as opposed to an online experience.”
Here, three experts of eyecare interiors share their most innovative and futuristic designs (all available now) to keep you ahead of the curve.

One Interior
FOCUS: The eyecare business of the future is modern, high-tech, and sustainable all at once—it also reveals an exam room that easily transitions between private and open modes—private for the exam process or an open view to the optical and frame displays.
» A hanging exam lane (1) creates a light, clean feeling.
» Computer screen with a rotating arm (2) allow ECPs to turn the screen toward the patient for explanation and education.
» For sleek typing, a laser keyboard (3) projects onto the countertop.
» A table extension (4) allows ECPs to face their patients.
» The all-in-one faucet (5) features an integrated soap and sanitizer dispenser that works via sensor.
» The countertop made of Corian—a sustainable material—features a molded sink and has no connections or seams, allowing for easy cleanup (6).
» Overhead cabinets (7) with top opening save space.
» Panels (8) allow privacy for the patient when needed.
» Shadow-free frame presentation is achieved via LED lighting (9).
» Showcase tables (10) make for a slimmer and lighter design.
» A lens presentation section (11) helps patients better understand and visualize their lenses.
Eye Designs Group
FOCUS: The optical shop of the future is highly modern yet also communal, with a gathering space. It also engages with a social media booth and a touch screen computer for customized patient education.
» Ready to draw crowds? Eye Designs Group serves up chic, communal lounge areas (1) and bold graphics.
» The Group’s INSIGHT+ unit (2) uses a touch screen computer to deliver practice-specific, tailor-made content to educate patients on current brands, sales, trends, and available inventory.
» Get interactive with a social media photo booth. Eye Designs’ EYEQUE unit (3) inspires customers to take selfies that auto-feed and broadcast into the system through hashtags posted on Twitter and Instagram. Customers can then print out the image, customized with a company’s branding and a promotional coupon that entices them to come back.
» On communal tables (4), iPads can offer videos, branded slideshows, P-O-S software for easy checkout, etc.
» Large video screens (5) are mounted on a feature wall made of on-trend reclaimed lumber.
» Have your customers come in (or head out) fully caffeinated with a coffee station (6).
Presenta Nova
FOCUS: The optical shop of the future is sleek, highly engaging, and organic—all at the same time. It also includes modular displays that easily transition for different looks plus futuristic locking frame holders that yield with a simple code.
» Quadro Diverse, Presenta Nova’s newest update of the Quadro shelf family, is modular, so ECPs can easily reassemble the shelves for different appearances or for different capacities or positions inside the space.
» Quadro shelves include built-in LED lights to gently emphasize the frames.
» The new Uni-Lock locking system (above) allows all frame holders to open and lock at the same time with a simple magnetic-coded key.
