Dive into our runway report of the biggest fashion trends for Fall/Winter 2017 to help plan your own enticing eyewear assortment
with so many bold and exciting releases—from eyewear to apparel—that are rolling off the runway, keeping track of the latest trends can be a time-consuming process. But an arsenal of trend intel can be essential to a successful eyewear assortment—and to positioning your business as an eyewear consultant and stylist to patients.
In addition, getting to know brands in their entirety helps pinpoint the consumer: from the rock ’n’ roll-inspired Varvatos wearer to the quirky Marni lover.
We’ve got you covered. Dive into our guide to the top trends on tap for fall and beyond.
TREND: Red-Hot Runway
Temperatures may be dropping, but the looks of the season are red hot.
Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, and FENDI were just a few of the slew of fashion houses that embraced bold reds for fall.
On the FENDI runway, Kendall Jenner rocked red from head to toe, an ensemble that was accented with FENDI sunglass style RUN AWAY FF 0285/S from Safilo, which features the innovative “F” logo on the lenses.
Scarlet shades and rosy tinted lenses are also on point for eyewear this season, especially those in round and oversized silhouettes.
TREND: Nostalgic Prints
It’s a trend that’s part kooky, part kitschy, and entirely fearless.
Harking back to luxurious wintry florals and kitschy prints inspired by their great-aunt’s curtains, designers unveiled vintage-inspired graphics that were the cat’s meow. At Marni, Jiya Kwon donned over-the-top prints, and oversized round, semi-rimless red-hued sunwear style ME106SDLS from Marchon, inspired by the Marni jewelry collection. The frame front is structured by a single rounded metal filament that sustains the open lenses, providing the illusion of three circles.
TREND: Live-In Lingerie
Highly feminine and ultimately proper, lingerie-inspired day looks are enhanced with lace, ruffles, and see-through panels. Dainty interpretations of the slip dress and cami are easy entries into this key look.
Eyewear takes on a contrasting element with this delicate trend. Revealed at the Prada Resort ‘18 runway show, Prada sunglass style PR52US from Luxottica is a bold accessory for on-trend soft whites (shown here on Prada It Girl Nandy Nicodeme).
FW17 Men’s Style Trends
TREND: Rocker Rebellion
John Varvatos’ brand is known for its rocker-influenced appeal for apparel and accessories, but for his fall collection, the designer amped up his edge with rebellious designs.
The look here on Saidou Diallo (lynx biker jacket and all) achieves a refined, rock star realness that also translates to men’s eyewear for the season. Shown here, sunglass style Stardust from De Rigo REM features on-trend mirrored lenses and a keyhole nose bridge.
TREND: Modern Entrenchment
Also echoed on women’s Fall 2017 runways, modern and belted trench coats (like the one shown here for Salvatore Ferragamo on Lucas Dambros) make for a sleek, utilitarian look—but one that coaxes a slightly incognito appeal.
Eyewear steps up to this trend with architectural looks, such as this Salvatore Ferragamo limited-release runway style SF177S from Marchon. A sleek accent to this trend, its metal structure and acetate insert on the frame front reveal a small but fierce silhouette.
TREND: Fur Real, Layered
Layered apparel in delectable brown hues (like Pantone colors Autumn Maple and Butterum)—often accented with fur or faux—is part of the prevalent cozy-chic aesthetic that’s on trend for fall.
To keep the comfort-enhancing style downright glam, model Magdalena Jasek wore the bold cat-eye Max Mara sunglass style MM Ingrid from Safilo on the Max Mara runway. This same frame makes its mark in the “Sleek and Swanky” FW17 eyewear trend (“frames suited for the work space and classiest of occasions”) from Eyecessorize, The Vision Council’s campaign to promote the fashion/lifestyle aspects of eyewear.
TREND: Masculine Muse
Borrowed from the boys, masculine-inspired looks like oversized coats and blazers—and even slightly more feminine pantsuits—are right on trend for the Fall ‘17 season. This rule-breaking, unscripted-style look also ropes in plenty of plaids and checks for a particular point of view.
Here, Asia Zebracka rocks show-stopping sunwear from Marchon on the Marni runway, adding a funky, fresh pop of color and a space-age spin to the boundary-breaking ensemble.
