April 19, 2023 — In partnership with Johnson & Johnson Vision, Black EyeCare Perspective (BEP) is hosting its third annual Signing Day on Tuesday, April 25, to celebrate the achievements of Black EyeCare Perspective Pre-Optometry Club (BEPPOC) members who have been accepted into a school or college of optometry, as well as students who will be part of the class of 2027.
Taking place at 7:30 p.m. EST, the event will be hosted by Jacobi Cleaver, O.D., FAAO, and future optometrist and past BEPPOC president Lauren Price. Click here to register for the virtual event.
Since the inaugural event in 2021, more than 60 students have participated in Signing Day, and more than $40,000 in matriculation grants have been awarded through the organization’s charitable arm, Diversity Perspective Inc. Additionally, BEP shares that it has connected students to resources and opportunities in the industry and beyond.
Founded by Adam Ramsey, O.D., and Darryl Glover, O.D., BEP works toward equity in the industry with its 13% Promise—a goal to balance representation in the industry with the U.S. Black population according to the U.S. Census. According to BEP, the BEPPOC has been its most successful tool in encouraging Black students into optometry. Since its inception, the BEPPOC has grown to more than 160 members.
