Dec. 7, 2023 — CooperVision has announced its manufacturing facility in Juana Días, Puerto Rico, has been elevated to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification after earning LEED Silver certification in 2020. The 540,000-square-foot facility joins the company’s Costa Rica plant that earned the gold-level recognition last year.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, the LEED rating system is recognized globally as a symbol of excellence in green building, certifying that homes, buildings, and communities have been designed, constructed, maintained, and operated to improve environmental and human health.
To achieve LEED certification, projects earn points by adhering to prerequisites and credits across nine measurements, from integrative design to human health to material use. CooperVision’s Juana Días facility excelled in the energy and water conservation, transportation, and waste reduction categories. Improvements in human experience and indoor environmental quality are what brought the site from silver- to gold-level certification.
