Nov. 16, 2023 — The Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) has published summaries of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) Lifestyle Reports that were released earlier this year.
The 74th issue of Contact Lens Update provides overviews and infographics on the expansive information found in the TFOS Lifestyle Reports. The resources summarize how lifestyle factors play a role in the health of the ocular surface and include insights on modifications that can improve overall quality of life.
According to CORE director and TFOS Board of Directors member Lyndon Jones, PhD, DSc, FCOptom, FAAO, the TFOS Lifestyle Workshop was established to identify connections between eye issues and lifestyle choices—from factors like contact lens wear, eye makeup, and digital device use to the state of a patient’s mental health and their diet. Specifically, the categories are contact lenses, cosmetics, the digital environment, elective medications and procedures, environmental conditions, lifestyle challenges, nutrition, and societal challenges.
“The World Health Organization has recognized that eye problems can be a result of our lifestyle choices,” says Dr. Jones. “Our work to increase practitioner awareness of these issues will improve patients’ lives.”
