Feb. 3, 2023 — Mido, the international eyewear show held at Milan’s Fiera Milano Rho from Feb. 4-6, saw more than 1,000 exhibitors and 150-plus countries represented across six pavilions and eight exhibit areas. Mido organizers shared there was an emphasis on internationalization and sustainability at this year’s trade show.
“The first weeks of February are strategic for companies and buyers to operate in a timely manner, getting an early look at the new collections in order to realize a return on investment in the first quarter of the year,” says Mido president Giovanni Vitaloni.
Mido organizers, via trend forecasting company WGSN, also revealed eyewear trends displayed at the trade show. Here, EB highlights five to note:
- “Scavenged Beauty.” This trend emphasizes the increasing usage of upcycled materials in eyewear—renewing the life of discarded materials such as seashells, stones, metals, and more.
- “Cyber Lime.” Eyewear’s color palette gets a delectable update with ultrabright greens fusing the realms of nature and technology.
- “Geometric Frame.” EB has been keeping track of the geometric trend, and exhibitors at Mido delivered with striking silhouettes with sharp curves and eye-catching contours.
- “Radiant Red.” With nods to Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year Viva Magenta, Mido revealed frames in this updated radiant red hue represent concepts of wellbeing, love, self-care, and thoughtfulness.
- “Encrusted.” Mido saw frames adorned in crystals, pearls, semi-precious stones, and recycled materials. Love this trend? Head to EB’s coverage of 3D texture.
