Jan. 13, 2022 — The Vision Council (TVC) has concluded its 2023 Executive Summit, which took place Jan. 9-11 in Austin, TX.
Nearly 300 industry professionals gathered for three days of executive-level networking sessions and presentations that highlighted the state of the eyecare industry, providing key business trends and concrete approaches to navigate the ever-changing global economy.

EB’s editor-in-chief Erinn Morgan and publisher Mark Durrick were in attendance to glean more insights from some of the event’s key presenters.
Former Amazon executives Bill Carr and Colin Bryar, authors of “Working Backwards,” gave a keynote presentation highlighting Amazon’s approach to leadership, culture, and best practices and how to implement them in any organization. EB chatted with Bryar and Carr to further understand how their insights can apply to eyecare professionals.
The president and CEO of the Society for Human Resource Management, Johnny Taylor Jr., pictured above, presented “Reset to Reimagine the Future of Work,” to explore topics regarding internal structure and procedures in the aftermath of the pandemic, which included employee retention, recruitment, and motivation strategies. EB took a few moments with Taylor to learn more about “the reset moment” and how workplaces should embrace empathy.
Brian Beaulieu, economist and CEO of ITR Economics, shared a fiscal perspective for the upcoming year. Before his presentation, EB spoke with him for a deeper dive into his 2023 economic outlook.
Other presenters included New York Times bestselling author, humanitarian, and survivor Jessica Buchanan, who spoke about her rescue by SEAL Team Six; and TVC’s government and regulatory affairs team, who discussed the recent relaunch of VisionPAC.
