July 28, 2023 — The Vision Council (TVC) has released its Consumer InSights Q2 2023 report featuring new insights into U.S. consumers’ preferences and habits regarding eye care, including in-depth analysis on consumer sentiments toward vision correction, managed vision care, eye exams, prescription eyewear, reading glasses, and plano sunglasses.
"It's clear that vision correction remains a key health concern for many Americans, with 93% of survey respondents utilizing some form of eyewear,” says Alysse Henkel, TVC senior director of market research and analytics. “This underscores the critical role that eyecare providers and eyewear manufacturers play in maintaining the nation's eye health."
The following are some highlights from the report:
- Of the more than 15,000 U.S. adult respondents, 67% use prescription eyewear, including glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses.
- Two out of 3 are enrolled in some type of managed vision care coverage.
- As of the second quarter of 2023, 61% reported having an eye exam within the past year.
- Thirty percent reported using readers.
- Sixty percent reported wearing plano sunglasses.
