The Vision Council (TVC) Foundation has officially launched its 2025 National Sunglasses Day campaign, ahead of the annual observance on June 27. The initiative includes new educational resources, events, and public engagement opportunities aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of wearing UV-protective eyewear.
National Sunglasses Day, established by TVC more than a decade ago, serves as TVC Foundation’s flagship consumer education campaign. It focuses on the role of sunglasses in preventing long-term eye health issues, including cataracts and macular degeneration, while also highlighting the fashion and functional benefits of eyewear.
“As we gear up for National Sunglasses Day, we're proud to lead the charge in educating consumers about the critical role sunglasses play in eye health,” says Ashley Mills, CEO of TVC and TVC Foundation. “It's an opportunity to spark conversations, share resources, and shine a light on a simple yet impactful health practice that provides critical protection and enables people to show off their personal style and to perform their best in their favorite sports and activities.”
As part of this year’s campaign, TVC Foundation will host an invite-only media and influencer event in New York City on June 26, featuring brand showcases, interactive experiences, and a live art installation, as well as presentations from experts discussing how UV light affects vision, health, and environmental conditions.
To support participation nationwide, TVC Foundation has released a free digital toolkit, which includes a sample press release, email copy, social media templates, web graphics, fact sheets, posters, and talking points. Materials can be downloaded here and are also available in print through TVC’s Vistaprint ProShop at a discounted rate.
The campaign encourages involvement from eyecare professionals, retailers, educators, and the public. Suggested activities include sharing toolkit resources, organizing local events or promotions, and posting on social media using the hashtags #SunglassSelfie and #NationalSunglassesDay.
